About
My name is Ken Mosher and I’ve always enjoyed seeking out what math geeks call the Positive Expected Value (+EV) or in layman’s terms…getting an edge. That is what this blog will focus on. No B.S, no sales pitches, no stock pump-and-dump hype… just sound ideas.
I have over twenty years of successful investing experience. My investing style can, for the most part, be summed up as follows:
- contrarian (avoid crowd-think)
- low cost (use no-load index funds and ETFs in most cases)
- aggressive but explainable (an occasional intriguing stock opportunity will warrant an aggressive play but it must be explainable from a logical perspective rather than a technical or fundamental perspective)
I have also enjoyed the “gambling arts” over the years. I am a successful amateur poker player specializing in No Limit Holdem cash games and tournaments. I have concluded that the only edges you can get gambling are:
- poker (you’re not playing the house, just the other players)
- sports-betting (not easy at all because you would have to win 52.4% of your wagers to break even but occasionally a good betting line will provide that edge).
- blackjack (card-counting can give a slight edge but this is very difficult to learn and execute successfully without getting banned from casinos). I only play blackjack on rare occasion for fun and not as a real edge.
- The rest of the games in vegas are all -EV. Some horseplayers will tell you otherwise but paramutuel betting has a 20% house take and that’s just too much for even the expert to beat.
